The D’Banj/Mohits split was one of Nigeria’s most publicized and controversial separations between an artiste and a record label. Even when it seems the dust has settled and everyone has moved on, months after the split, a new twist has emerged in the controversy which is sure to raise more questions.
The source of the new twist is a leaked conversation between Mavin artiste, Dr. Sid and Davido which was obtained by TheNetng. Dr Sid stated angrily that the reason why he did not shine was because D’Banj was overshadowing other artistes under the Mohits label. ”Why don’t they know my name? Because your brand and your star is too much it is overshadowing” he said.
However, Davido argued back saying that D’Banj helped everybody and was influential to Wande Coal’s career. ”Guuuy, it’s not that, D’banj can help anybody. If Lil Wayne calls me, i go go meet Lil Wayne now. If not for D’banj nobody would have looked Wande like that, I dey lie…. Men, I don’t know”
Dr. Sid replied saying that D’banj did more negative than positive for his career. “Batman and Robin, who them call? Na D’banj now. Mohits gave me exposure but D’banj did more negative than positive for my career”
There was another unidentified voice in the background who seemed to be in support of Dr Sid’s argument.
