I am a big fan of what Oprah Winfrey does with her money and
how she uses the format of her show to make the world a better place. Over the
years she has covered many fascinating stories but one that really resonated
with me was that of Rudine Howard, the woman who suffered with Anorexia Nervosa- A rare
challenge of eating disorder that makes people lose more weight than is
considered healthy for their age and height. Persons with this disorder one may
have an intense fear of weight gain, even when they are underweight. The
picture attached here shows the skeletal body frame of living Rudine Howard as she suffers from this
terrible mental attack yet she still sees her self as being fat! The part of the scene that profoundly moved
me in the very emotional episode of the Show was when Oprah tried to motivate
her into feeding her brain, body and
soul so she could survive...Rudine could only ask a question “But how do you do
it?” You can feel her utter hopelessness as she asks that big question. It’s so
sad to see how Rudine has lost her way, has lost herself and who she used to
be, who she COULD be! She has been overtaken by this disease. She just could
only ask HOW! Ofcourse she couldn't figure HOW she can't arrange her feeding will
power to accept food into her, she wished she knew HOW!...Rudine Finally lost
the battle to the cold hands of death, but then she suffered for many years as a
human skeleton.

My heart broke for Rudine when I saw that show. I can resonate with her helplessness because I have seen my mother suffer with anorexia for decades. Rest in peace Rudine.. Till we meet.
ReplyDeleteI have been suffering with this disease since I was 14 and I am almost 39. I live on meal shakes and one meal a day! I am a bike athlete and over the years I tell myself “it’s okay to have a lil more to eat because you stay in shape and have only had this much today. I do what Tracy suggested and add a lil more to my diet
