Aftermath Of Taraba Gov’s Plane Crash, Thugs Invade Govt House, Send Dep Gov Packing

 

Thugs have invaded the Government House, Jalingo and chased out the deputy governor, Alhaji Garba Umar. This is even as Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba State who was involved in a plane crash, has been reportedly flown to Germany for medical treatment.
The invasion, seen a security breach, is now being investigated by the State Security Service (SSS), which strongly suspects it is part of a plot to stop Umar from succeeding Suntai in the event that the governor did not survive.

At the centre of the SSS probe is a senator said to have instigated the attack.
Governor Suntai was widely rumoured to have died in the crash until the Presidency and the Ministry of Aviation, in separate statements, said he did not.
Umar, who was only sworn-in on October 5, was forced out of the Government House by thugs allegedly loyal to the Senator.
Alhaji Sani Abubakar, Umar’s predecessor, was himself stopped from seeing the governor by security agents stationed at the hospital.
Governor Suntai was transferred from Yola to the National Hospital, Abuja yesterday, wearing an oxygen mask. He was heavily bandaged.
A highly placed source who spoke on the Government House invasion, said: “Following the rumoured death of the governor, some thugs loyal to a serving senator invaded the Government House at about 11pm and unconstitutionally ejected the Deputy Governor from the place.
“They were shouting that under no condition would they allow the Deputy Governor to succeed Suntai who was presumed dead.
“Worried by the threat to his life, the Deputy Governor was ferried by security aides to the state office of the SSS in Jalingo.
“He slept at the SSS office overnight to avoid being killed. But a reinforcement of security around the Deputy Governor was effected on Friday to prevent further harassment against him.”
The source added: “We are investigating the alleged involvement of a serving senator in the illegal attack on the Deputy Governor.
“If the senator’s culpability is established, we will effect his arrest and trial.
“So far, it has been established that the senator has been at loggerheads with the governor. The suspect was opposed to how the immediate past Deputy Governor, Alhaji Sani Abubakar, was impeached by the Taraba State House of Assembly based on ‘cooked up’ allegations of gross misconduct levelled against him by the state lawmakers.”

Rivers State Gov. Amaechi Confirms Purchase Of $45m Aircraft

 

The Rivers State Government has confirmed the purchase of a brand new $45million Bombardier Jet for Governor Chibuike Amaechi.
Reacting to inquiries, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari Commissioner for Information said; “It was paid for two years ago. The reason is for safety. The new aircraft is a much safer one.”
She said plans are already in place to sell the old aircraft.
A report criticizing Ameachi over the purchase of a new aircraft at a time his state is ravaged by flood and several people rendered homeless said Amaechi acquired the brand new Bombardier Global 5000 (N565RS) for his exclusive use.
Semenitari however pointed out that the purchase was made two years ago based on expert advice that the new one is safer, and that the Rivers state House of Assembly was duly consulted before the purchase and the House approved of it.
Sahara Reporters had reported that the newly purchased jet left Montreal-Trudeau Airport in Montreal, Quebec to Dakar Yoff International Airport, and then it was delivered to the state government on 7 October 2012.
The jet was primarily purchased from Bombardier in Canada for $45.7 million through the Bank of Utah Trustee account.
A Port Harcourt-based human rights activist has regarded the purchase of the new aircraft as “an ungodly act.”
A lot of people were said to have been disappointed in the governor when they heard rumours that he bought a new jet, especially at a time when several people have been rendered homeless as a result of flooding in the area; and also the bad state of roads in the South-South state has left people asking if the government really has the love the citizens of the state at heart.
