US To Send Soldiers To Tackle Boko Haram

A U.S. Army brigade will begin sending small teams into as many as 35African nations early next year, part of an intensifying Pentagon effort to train countries to battle extremists and give the U.S. a ready and trained force to dispatch to Africa if crises requiring the U.S. military emerge.
boko-15
The teams will be limited to training and equipping efforts, and will not be permitted to conduct military operations without specific, additional approvals from the secretary of defense.
The sharper focus on Africa by the U.S. comes against a backdrop of widespread insurgent violence across North Africa, and as the African Union and other nations discuss military intervention in northern Mali.
The terror threat from al-Qaida linked groups in Africa has been growing steadily, particularly with the rise of the extremist Islamist sect Boko Haram in Nigeria. Officials also believe that the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, which killed the ambassador and three other Americans, may have been carried out by those who had ties to al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb.
This first-of-its-kind brigade assignment — involving teams from the 2nd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division — will target countries such as Libya, Sudan, Algeria and Niger, where al-Qaida-linked groups have been active. It also will assist nations like Kenya and Uganda that have been battling al-Shabab militants on the front lines in Somalia.
Gen. Carter Ham, the top U.S. commander in Africa, noted that the brigade has a small drone capability that could be useful in Africa. But he also acknowledged that he would need special permission to tap it for that kind of mission.
“If they want them for (military) operations, the brigade is our first sourcing solution because they’re prepared,” said Gen. David Rodriguez, the head of U.S. Army Forces Command. “But that has to go back to the secretary of defense to get an execute order.”
Already the U.S. military has plans for nearly 100 different exercises, training programs and other activities across the widely diverse continent. But the new program faces significant cultural and language challenges, as well as nagging questions about how many of the lower-level enlisted members of the brigade, based in Fort Riley, Kan., will participate, since the teams would largely be made up of more senior enlisted troops and officers. A full brigade numbers about 3,500, but the teams could range from just a few people to a company of about 200. In rare cases for certain exercises, it could be a battalion, which would number about 800.
To bridge the cultural gaps with the African militaries, the Army is reaching out across the services, the embassies and a network of professional organizations to find troops and experts that are from some of the African countries. The experts can be used during training, and the troops can both advise or travel with the teams as they begin the program.
“In a very short time frame we can only teach basic phrases,” said Col. Matthew McKenna, commander of the 162nd Infantry Brigade that will begin training the Fort Riley soldiers in March for their African deployment. “We focus on culture and the cultural impact — how it impacts the African countries’ military and their operations.”
Thomas Dempsey, a professor with the Africa Center for Strategic Studies, said the biggest challenge will be the level of cultural, language and historical diversity across the far-flung continent.
“How do you train for that in a way that would be applicable wherever they go?” said Dempsey, a retired Army colonel. He said he’s not sure using a combat brigade is the right answer, but added, “I’m not sure what the answer is. The security challenges differ so dramatically that, to be honest, I really don’t think it’s feasible to have a continental training package.”
The Pentagon’s effort in Africa, including the creation of U.S. Africa Command in 2007, has been carefully calibrated, largely due to broad misgivings across the continent that it could spawn American bases or create the perception of an undue U.S. military influence there. As a result, the command has been based in Stuttgart, Germany, rather than on the African continent.
At the same time, many African nations are eager for U.S. training or support, as they work to build their militaries, battle pirates along the coast and shut down drug trafficking, kidnapping and other insurgent activities.
McKenna acknowledged the challenge, but said the military has to tap its conventional fighting forces for this task because there aren’t enough special operations forces to meet the global training needs. He said there will be as many as a dozen different training segments between February and September, each designed to provide tailored instruction for the particular teams.
The mission for the 2nd Brigade — known as the “Dagger Brigade” — will begin in the spring and will pave the way for Army brigades to be assigned next to U.S. Pacific Command and then to U.S. European Command over the next year. The brigade is receiving its regular combat training first, and then will move on to the more specific instruction needed for the deployments, such as language skills, cultural information and other data about the African nations.
Dagger Brigade commander Col. Jeff Broadwater said the language and culture training will be different than what most soldiers have had in recent years, since they have focused on Pashtun and Farsi, languages used mostly in Afghanistan and Iran. He said he expects the soldiers to learn French, Swahili, Arabic or other languages, as well as the local cultures.
“What’s really exciting is we get to focus on a different part of the world and maintain our core combat skills,” Broadwater said, adding that the soldiers know what to expect. “You see those threats (in Africa) in the news all the time.”
The brigade will be carved up into different teams designed to meet the specific needs of each African nation. As the year goes on, the teams will travel from Fort Riley to those nations — all while trying to avoid any appearance of a large U.S. military footprint.
“The challenge we have is to always understand the system in their country,” said Rodriguez, who has been nominated to be the next head of Africa Command. “We’re not there to show them our system, we’re there to make their system work.

Jonathan’s Government Is A Disappointment – Tinubu

The administration of President Goodluck Jonathan has been given the thumbs down by former Lagos State governor and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) national leader, Bola Tinubu.
SENATOR BOLA TINUBU
SENATOR BOLA TINUBU
Tinubu hinged his verdict on the current administration’s failure to deliver on many of its promises, particularly that of transforming their lives.
He stated this yesterday in his Christmas message to Nigerians. ”This current administration rather than translating its touted transformation agenda into impactful performance has hastened the transformation of most Nigerians into poverty, into a world of unemployment and insecurity” he said.
He said Nigerians survived the outgoing year through dint of handwork and courage than through the support of the government.
While urging Nigerians not to lose hope and to continue in the spirit of Christmas to make the sacrifices necessary to make Nigeria better, he enjoined Christians to continue in steadfast prayers for Nigeria, noting that every good leader needs the support and prayers of the followers to succeed.
“Our faith will never let us down. We must trust in God and pray for a better country. When we pray, God will give Nigeria leaders that are capable, compassionate and committed.
“The situation our country is in today is both sad and unacceptable. We are as a people without a leader, a country with no trustworthy men at the helm of affairs and a nation lost at sea. Our leaders must commit to a better country, not tomorrow, but beginning now, today because time is not on our side and the continued patience of the people may no longer be guaranteed,” Tinubu said

People close to the very private Levante FC of Spain striker say he’s very serious with Abigail and that’s why he’s no longer hiding his relationship with her unlike previous relationships. They say he may be considering marriage.

Faceoff: D’banj Shuns Don Jazzy At Rhythm Unplugged

It is obvious that the feud between these two best of friends is yet to be settled. Don Jazzy announced last week that he was opening a nite club almost immediately; the Koko Master announced that he was going to open a nite club as well.
Dbanj - Copy
Many artists who were on stage at the Rhythm Unplugged show kept hailing Don Jazzy who sat the V.I.P but when D’Banj mounted the stage during Kswitch’s performance neither him nor his brother took notice of Don Jazzy’s presence but just kept performing
This raise some eyebrows on whether these two former Mohits Records owners are still in good talking terms.

Goldie And Prezzo To Wed Secretly?

Rumours have been flying around and we can’t help but assume that Kenyan rapper Prezzo and Nigerian pop singer Goldie are in a relationship.
Sources are now claiming the celebrity pair are planning to tie the knot.
Nothing is confirmed yet, but we have information they may have already picked a date : Saturday, February 9, 2013.
Those who claim to be insiders allege Prezzo has visited Goldie’s parent’s residence in Lagos to ask for their daughter’s hand in marriage. We could however, not immediately confirm this. And Goldie, who’s planning to release an ‘Africa Invasion’ album, insists she will no longer be commenting on her relationship with the Kenyan.
Goldie and Prez were last spotted last week at the Channel O ‘Hollywood Style House Party’ held in Lekki, Lagos. Before then, they attended late Pastor Bimbo Odukoya’s daugther Tolu’s wedding on November 3 dressed in matching blue traditional wear.
The couple have however remained mum about their steaming affair; and seem determined to leave it that way for now.
Goldie and Prezzo met up for the first time during the Big Brother Stargame this year and even though they ended their relationship on a sour note, they eventually linked up when Prezzo came begging.

Obama bribed women and youth to win – Romney

The candidate of the Republican Party in the just-concluded presidential election in the United States of America, Mitt Romney, said at a conference call with donors, on Thursday, that Barack Obama won the 2012 presidential campaign because of “gifts” given by the administration to black, Hispanic and young voters.

“The President’s campaign focused on giving targeted groups a big gift, so he made a big effort on small things. Those small things, by the way, add up to trillions of dollars.” Mr Romney said.
He said moves like the president’s healthcare reform legislation and a decision to suspend deportation of certain illegal immigrants who came to the country as children proved “highly motivational” on Election Day.
Mr Romney also said he had “gotten beat up pretty bad” on issues including his immigration stance and personal wealth.
“I am very sorry that we didn’t win,” Mr Romney told the donors. “I know that you expected me to win. We expected to win. It was very close, but close doesn’t count in this business.”
Republicans run from Romney
Asked about Mr Romney’s comments, the governor of Louisiana, Bobby Jindal told reporters at a Republican Governors Association (RGA) meeting: “I absolutely reject that notion, that description.”
“We need to stop being a dumb party, and that means more than stop making dumb comments,” added Jindal, the RGA’s incoming chairman.
The need to reorient and rebuild the party was a major topic of conversation at the governors’ meeting. Among the top concerns was the party’s failure to attract Hispanics, the fact that its voter turnout operation did not live up to expectations, its flatfooted response to Obama’s attacks on Romney and its misplaced optimism that Romney would win.
At one session, former Mississippi governor, Haley Barbour laid out the need to take an ungentle approach to fixing those problems: “We’ve got to give our political organization a very serious proctology exam. We need to look everywhere.”
Mr Jindal and other governors insisted that putting the party back on track does not mean betraying its traditional principles.
“In the face of the losses, we do have to make changes,” Mr Jindal said. “We need to modernize our party. We don’t need to moderate our party.”
Added Wisconsin’s Scott Walker, who survived a recall effort earlier this year: “It’s not that our beliefs are wrong. We’re not doing an effective enough job articulating those beliefs.”
He also was critical of Mr Romney’s comments. “We’re the party that helps people find a pathway to live the American dream,” Mr Walker said. “They want to have a chance to live the American dream. They want to have a job.”
White House rejects Romney
The White House on Friday rejected Mr Romney’s remarks that President Obama owed his re-election to “gifts” he showered on women, African American and Hispanic supporters.
Mr Obama’s Spokesman, Jay Carney told reporters that Romney’s “view of the American people and the election is at odds with the truth of what happened last week”.
Obama garnered 51 percent of the popular vote to Romney’s 48 percent, and won decisively in the state-by-state Electoral College, where he earned 332 votes to Romney’s 206.
Asked about these remarks by reporters aboard Air Force One, Mr Carney defended President Obama’s social measures as “good for all Americans” and “good for the economy.”
“The President pursued policies that have at their core a desire to help the middle class, strengthen the middle class, make the middle class more secure, because that’s what makes America more secure”.

Maryam Abacha Floors Chief Launcher’s Donation At Book Launch

The organizers would be wishing she was made the Chief launcher as well as mother of the day after former First lady, Mrs Maryam Abacha, yesterday stole the show at the launch of a book written by her former Military press secretary, Colonel John Adache (rtd).
Mrs Abacha strolled into the conference Hall of the National Defence Collage, NDC, named after her husband Sanni Abacha, in company of her son, Mohammed and a retinue of well-wishers.
At the launch of the book on ‘The Military and Public Relations; Issues Strategies and Challenges’, the Chief launcher donated N2 million, but the former First lady who is the mother of the day announced, her family’s donation of N5 million and threw the whole hall into loud ovation, with everyone believing the highest donation of the night would be the Chief launcher’s.
Commandant of the National Defence Collage Rear Admiral Thomas Lokoson, while speaking at the event said the military must continue to engage in vigorous public relations and information management activities in the interest of national security
While urging the military to continue to live up to the challenge through making strides in research and scholarship, the Commandant noted that the Collage will continue to hold its place prominently amongst its pears globally.
He added that the publication of the book was very timely as public relations practiced by most complex organizations are being given greater impetus especially with the advent of globalization enhanced by varied modes of modern communications. He added that the military cannot afford to be left behind.

‘I really miss him’ – Cristiano Ronaldo admits he is still fond of Sir Alex Ferguson

The 27-year-old Portugal international spent six successful seasons at Manchester United before moving to Real Madrid, and described his former boss as his ‘father in football’

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo admits he misses Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson as his manager, describing the 70-year-old as his “father in football”.

The 27-year-old now plays under Jose Mourinho at the Santiago Bernabeu after making a world-record transfer from Old Trafford in 2009 for an estimated €100 million.
And despite winning La Liga last season for los Blancos and scoring 46 goals in 38 league games, the Portuguese player revealed he remains fond of his former tutor, three years after leaving Manchester.
“[Ferguson is] a fantastic person. A human person. He taught me many things,” Ronaldo toldThe Sun.
“Like I said before, he’s like a father in football. I really miss him and my relationship with him.”
The United boss will be 71 later this year, but Ronaldo believes the fiery Scot is as motivated as ever.
He added: “He is very tough. I think he cannot be like that because, how old is he – 70? It’s not good for his heart.
“He’s still tough, strong, I remember him the first time I saw him he was with the same power.”
Ferguson signed Ronaldo from Sporting Lisbon in 2003, and nurtured his prodigious talent to the point where the winger was awarded the Ballon d’Or after scoring 42 goals in all competitions in the 2007-08 season.
The 27-year-old won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League during his time at Old Trafford, as well as the Fifa World Player of the Year award in 2008.
The forward has already scored 12 goals in 11 league appearances so far this season, but Madrid currently sit eight points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona as they look to retain their title

CAN Gen Sec, Others Condemn Tunde Bakare Over Private Jet Comments

It seems we’ve not heard the last of Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor’s birthday gift as Pastor Tunde Bakare’s comment about a need for revolution because certain eminent religious leaders have private jets, has been greatly condemned by religious leaders.
Reacting to Pastor Bakare’s comment, the General Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Musa Asake; Director of National Issues of CAN in charge of North West Zone, Rev. Haruna Karatu; and the PRO of 19 northern states and Abuja CAN, Elder Sunday Oibe said there is nothing wrong with people donating aircraft to their religious leaders.
Bakare had said, a few days after church members donated a private jet to Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor as a birthday present, that a bloody revolution that would consume religious leaders who are acquiring private jets would soon break out in the country, as he urged their congregations to challenge them to explain where and how they raised the money to procure such expensive jets.
Responding, the CAN secretary said: “What is wrong with giving a birthday gift to Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor? Did he embezzle church money? Did he collect somebody’s money? If a group of people come together to buy him a jet to ease his evangelical work, why should that be a subject of public debate?
“Oritsejafor is a man of God. He is doing everything for the work of God”. Also speaking on the ongoing debate in social media especially the tweet by former Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el Rufai, Elder Eghes Eyieyien said Nigerian pastors who own private jets should not be envied because they travel very frequently around the world ministering.
“Redeemed Christian Church of God has thousands of branches and millions of members on all continents of the world. Winners’ Chapel and Christ Embassy equally have many international branches and hundreds of thousands of members. Pastor Adeboye, Bishop Oyedepo and Pastor Oyakhilome travel thousands of kilometres monthly doing God’s work and have to be in places not well-served by commercial flights,” he said.

A 28-year-old woman, Anastasia Uche of Kurudu, Abuja has been charged before the Karu Magistrate court, Abuja for biting off a fellow woman’s nipples during an argument, Nigeria’s News Agency has reported.
The police prosecutor, Cpl. Pascal Njoku, told the court that Anastasia bit Hauwa Musa on the right breast and severed the nipple, thereby causing grievous hurt to Hauwa.
According to Njoku, the offence contravened Section 241 of the Penal Code.
The accused pleaded not guilty and her counsel, Mr Michael Ejeh, applied for bail for her.
Magistrate Christopher Oba advised both the complainant and the accused to resolve the matter amicably, saying: “Nobody benefits from trouble.’’
“I will advise that both parties in this matter should sit down and explore the possibility of resolving this matter,’’ he said.
Before adjourning the case till November 21 for hearing if both parties fail to resolve the matter, the magistrate granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50,000 and a surety in like sum.
“The surety must have a reasonable means of livelihood and a traceable address within the jurisdiction of this court,’’ he ruled.

Kwara Declares 3-Day Mourning In Honour Of Olusola Saraki

The Kwara Government on Wednesday announced the death of Second Republic Senate Leader, Dr Olusola Saraki.
The elder statesman died at the age of 79 years.

Gov. Abdulfattah Ahmed of Kwara, who announced the death of the politician at the Government House in Ilorin, said Saraki passed on in the early hours of Wednesday.
The governor declared Wednesday a work-free day to allow residents of the state to receive the body of the late politician who died in Lagos.
Ahmed also declared a three-day mourning period across the state.
The body of the late politician was expected in Ilorin at 2:00 p.m while the burial was expected to take place at 4: 00 p.m.
Scores of residents had trooped to the GRA residence of the late politician as news of the death filtered into the state capital.
Government officials, however, kept sealed lips on the death of Saraki while many top public officers were sighted at the Government House and the residence of the deceased discussing in groups.
The state-owned radio station, Radio Kwara, suspended all regular programmes in honour of the late Waziri of Ilorin.
In its place, the station was playing different sound tracks eulogising the life and times of the late politician.
NAN reports that Saraki was born in Ilorin on the 17th of May, 1933, and was educated at Eko Boys High School, Lagos.
He also attended the University of London and St George’s Hospital Medical School, London.
The late politician also worked as a Medical Officer at the General Hospital, Lagos, and the Creek Hospital, Lagos.
He first entered for the parliamentary election in Ilorin as an independent, but failed to win.
After the election, he returned to his medical practice in Lagos, only returning to party-politics in 1978/79.
In 1977, Saraki was elected as a member of the Constituent Assembly that produced the 1979 constitution.
Also in 1979, he was elected a Senator of the Second Republic and became the Senate Leader.
In 1983, Saraki was re-elected into the Senate on the platform of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).
The late politician in 1998 became a National Leader and member of the Board of Trustees of the defunct All People’s Party (APP) and contributed to the party’s success in Kwara and Kogi States.
Saraki was also to declare support for the PDP in the 2003 elections and backed his son, Bukola, to clinch the governorship seat. (NAN)

Boko Haram: Obasanjo Makes Reference To Jonathan As A ‘Weak Leader’

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, blamed president Goodluck Jonathan for allowing the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, to fester and grow into a monster that is out of control by his failure to act on a report submitted to the government.
From right:; and L-R: Deacon Gamaliel Onosode, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi & Chief Olusegun Obasanjo At A Lecture Entitled “The Nigeria Of My dream: Towards The Consolidation Of National Unity” In Honour Pf Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor’s 40 Years In The Ministry At Word Of Life Bible Church, Warri, Delta State, Yesterday.
The former president was speaking at a lecture delivered by Professor Bolaji Akinyemi in celebration of Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor’s 40th anniversary as founder of the Word of Life Bible Church, Warri in Delta State. Obasanjo also tasked Nigerians to choose between a strong leader who might adopt unusual approach to tackle a problem or a weak leader who will leave the problem to fester.
While responding to a question from a pastor from Borno State on how he could forge any form of unity with those who are perpetuating violence in the northern part of the country, Obasanjo went philosophical, saying: “Boko Haram is an ill wind that blows nobody no good.”
The former president also narrated his experience when he visited the hot-bed of Boko Haram, Borno, on a fact-finding mission and blamed the government’s inability to act on his findings as reason why the problem grew to “become something else.”
“Whichever way, you just have to attend to it. Don’t leave it unattended to. On two occasions I had to attend to the problem I faced at that time. I sent soldiers to a place and 19 of them were killed. If I had allowed that to continue, I will not have authority to send security whether police, soldier and any force any where again. So, I had to nip it in the bud and that was the end of that particular problem,” he said.
Obasanjo was however quick to admit that not all problems might require a tough stance as according to him, “if you say you don’t want a strong leader who can have all characteristics of leaders including God fearing, then have a weak leader and the rest of the problem is yours.”
Theformer president was also quick to dispel insinuations that he single-handedly foisted president Jonathan on Nigerians saying that he didn’t give all the votes that brought him to power. But he did give a remedy when he said, “the beauty of democracy is that power rests in the people, and every elected person would seek your votes to come back; if you don’t want him, he won’t come back.”
And like he has been advocating over the last couple of days, the erstwhile PDP BOT Chairman charged Nigerians to stand up and take their destinies in their own hands, reminding them of a Yoruba adage, “if you say it the way it is, you will die; if you don’t say anything at all, you will die, why don’t you say it and die?”

Zimbabwe Man Fatally Strikes Brother’s Wife With An Axe For Refusing To Sleep With Him

The man, 23-year-old Peter Chaminga of Farm 268, Nyazvidzi Communal Lands, is said to have accosted his sister-in-law asking her to be intimate with him since her husband had been away in South Africa for a lengthy period.
The sister-in-law, Raviro Sherekete, who was at home at Farm 267 with her 8-year-old son, spurned Chaminga’s advances reminding him that they were related through her marriage to his elder blood brother.
This infuriated Chaminga who then allegedly grabbed an axe and charged Sherekete while scolding her for spurning his advances.
He allegedly struck Sherekete in the head five times with the axe until she collapsed in a pool of blood before locking himself in a kitchen hut while neighbours who had rushed to the scene took her to Murambinda District Hospital.
Her condition was deemed critical and she was transferred to Mutare General Hospital where she died the following day. Chaminga handed himself to the police in Gutu.
Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero confirmed the incident yesterday, saying Chaminga was expected in court soon.
“We have arrested the suspect who killed his brother’s wife after she had refused to give in to his demands for the two to be intimate. The suspect is in custody assisting us with investigations and he will appear in court soon facing murder charges,” Insp Zhanero said.

My Romance’ With A Python – Nollywood Actress, Chika Ike

UN Ambassador and Nollywood actress, Chika Ike knows her onions when it comes to interpreting her roles in movies as well as engaging in buying and selling. Having featured in several movies since debuting in the industry nearly a decade ago, her dexterity in the interpretation of roles has endeared her to most movie directors.

Recently, the 27 year-old actress showed her stuff in a multi-million naira flick, ‘A Minute Silence’, where she was meant to pose for a shot with a live python. In this encounter, she recounts the horrible experience and explains why she prefers to keep her private life out of her acting career.
You are already a brand after putting in nearly ten years in the industry. What is your staying power?
I can only attribute my success to God because without Him, I’m a nobody. I’m also a sucker for hard work. I believe that in whatever you do, you’ve got to put in your best in it.
In a highly competitive industry with multi-talented actors and actresses, it is not easy. But I give God the glory, I’m a very spiritual person. Without God, I can’t really do anything. I grew up under the influence of my parents who inculcated the values of discipline, hard work and tolerance in their children.
Would you ascribe your success in the industry to your excellent interpretation of roles and professionalism?
Yes, that is what I actually mean by hard work. You have to be very professional in whatever you are doing in order to achieve success.
So, it is a combination of spiritualism, favour of God, hard work and professionalism.
What frightening experience have you had in the course of your acting career?
Basically, every job has its own hazards. Acting also has its own challenges too. I have had a lot of experiences. As an actress, you have to be at different locations. I shot a film recently that I was in the forest for seven days. You know, the sight of reptiles and animals can be very frightening.
There could be scorpions, monkeys and other dangerous animals hidden in the bush but as an actress, you’ve got to put that behind you and do the job. I just finished a movie recently where I had to pose with a live python. It was the most frightening role I have ever played in recent times. Carrying a python that can turn against you at any moment can be very frightening.
What was going through your mind when you were carrying the python?
A lot of things went through my mind. I felt anything could happen because animals are not easy to control. You can only try your best, human being sometimes might not be able to control wild animals. I felt the python was going to turn against me. Even when a colleague was encouraging me to carry the snake,I was praying it didn’t to attack me.
It was frightening; very scary. It took me a while before I could carry it. People were like telling me not to be scared. I was like running away but they kept telling me Chika, No! No, it won’t attack you. Later, I agreed to carry it with one hand but the director insisted I must hang it around my neck. I screamed and screamed , but I finally did it.
It means you can do anything for money?
No, I will never kill for money.
What if you have a Hollywood script that you’ve got to act nude for a whooping sum of money?
I will not take the job.
A big sum of money in dollars sometimes is irresistible?
Honestly, I won’t do it. I will not go naked for any movie.
A lot of rumours are making the rounds about your crashed marriage, could you please put the records straight?
You see, human beings are terrible, but the issue is that as long as you are breathing, people will continue to talk about you. Even if you are dead, people will still talk about you whether positively or negatively. Rumours will always come up, especially when one is in the limelight. So, let them continue to talk about me, I don’t want to talk about it.
But that will not help the situation either; is it not better to put the records straight, or you have decided to move on without a man in your life?
Basically, it is my private life and I don’t want to talk about it. I think private matters are handled privately. So, issues about marriages, relationships, friendships are personal, people are entitled to handle their own issues their own way. So, I like to keep my private life private.
Apart from acting, what other things do you do?
I have a foundation called Chika Ike Foundation which is geared towards helping children on the streets, giving them hope and encouraging them to become better persons in future. I launched it officially in May 27, this year, where we organised a party for over 3,000 children in Lagos.
The party was themed “Educate a Child” and we gave out over 3000 Customized CIF (Chika Ike Foundation) school bags containing school materials, T-shirts, lunchboxes, note books and snacks. It was held at the Light Chapel playing ground.
It was fun galore. I visited public schools in Enugu and Delta States recently and I’m planing to replicate the same in other states before the end of this year. It has actually been taking my time, but I love it because I’m passionate about it. Again, my fashion business: Fancy Nancy Collections is another area that takes my time. The Lagos branch is going to be opened soon. So, it has been a handful of activities for me.
What inspired you into setting up the foundation?
I grew up in a neighbourhood where people could not afford the basic necessities of life. I saw my mother helping them when they needed help. I saw a lot of kids being exposed to violence, child abuse, peer pressure. So I learnt from my mother’s generosity to the kids and her gestures towards caring for others. I was close to them and I could feel their pain. Since then, I told myself, ‘if I’m going to set up a foundation, it has to be one that has to do with kids. That is my passion.
Some of your colleagues have taken the initiative to premiere some movies. Are you thinking in that direction?
Yeah! It is good to be ambitious, and anybody that is ambitious will think of doing something special and worthwhile in the industry. Of course, I give them kudos for doing it and I’m assuring you that mine will be out, hopefully very soon.
What are you doing right now then?
I’m currently shooting a movie in Enugu. We will finish the production very soon. The movie is entitled, Kleptomania. It’s about a girl that has a sensation and spur to steal. This was actually brought about by a curse by her old mother while stealing her money to help her own boyfriend. The old woman cursed her and she started stealing. At a point in the movie and in the story line, she had an accident and her legs were cut off. It was physically challenging.
Are you the lead actress in the movie?
Yes I am. I worked with Pete Edochie. It was a beautiful storyline, with lovely casts.
How much did it cost?
I really don’t know, but I know it cost the producers a lot of money. If you put all the casts and cost together, it is huge. It is not easy getting Uncle Pete Edochie and myself in a movie like that.
When is it going to be out?
Hopefully in March 2013.
If you look back into your life, would you regret any of your actions?
I don’t really like looking back at life in such a way because I see everything you do in life as a learning process. I am not somebody that would not try and later start skulking and wishing it had never happened. Of course, I will feel bad, but I don’t allow that to weigh me down. I just have to move on and take it as one of the lessons in life. That way, it makes you stronger.
I have heard people call you African Sweetheart, why this name?
(Laughs) Of course I’m an African Sweetheart. I don’t really know why they call me that but I believe I am one. Every African woman should be a sweetheart. But I gladly take the name. Come to think of it, if you look at me, you’ll know that I am a full blown African woman and I am proud about that.

Blinded’ Ronaldo Out Of Portugal Friendly After Losing Sight In Both Eyes

Portugal will be without the services of playmaker, Cristiano Ronaldo when they engage Gabon on Wednesday in a friendly after ‘losing the vision in both his eyes’ following an elbow in the face during Real Madrid’s Sunday win over Levante.
Ronaldo was due to have tests at a Madrid hospital after being caught by defender David Navarro in the opening exchanges of last night’s clash.
Although Ronaldo returned to action after being patched up on the sidelines and even managed to score Real’s opener in the 21st minute, he was unable to return for the second half and coach Jose Mourinho said that his star forward ‘lost vision in both eyes and couldn’t go on’.
Ronaldo arrived at the Portugal team hotel in Lisbon on Monday but he will play no part against Gabon in Libreville.

Ekwueme At 80: You Are Getting Nearer The Departure Lounge – Obasanjo Tells Ekwueme

The conference on ‘Party Politics in Nigeria and Lobbying, the Lobbyist and the Legislature,‘ organised by the National Institute for Legislative Studies, was supposed to be a gathering for brainstorming on politics but it turned into a mixture of politics and jokes with former president Olusegun Obasanjo the lead character.

Senate President, David Mark; his Deputy Ike Ekweremadu, and the Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, had used the occassion to congratulate former vice president, Alex Ekwueme on attaining the age of 80-years.
Obasanjo, who shared one of the sessions of the conference, later told Ekwueme that attaining 80 was a sign that he (Ekwueme) was moving to the departure lounge.
Obasanjo said, “The only octogenarian on the high table, and I don’t think there is even another person on the other side of the table, even in the hall (that is up to 80 years).
“My brother and friend, and I think the Senate President regards you as a true democrat; I will join the others in congratulating you on your recent crossing of the bar.
“But let me just warn you that crossing the bar or becoming 80 something, you are getting nearer the departure lounge.
“I will get into the car park with you, but I won’t go into the departure lounge with you.”
The comments elicited hearty bouts of laughter from the audience, including Ekwueme, who in a hushed tone, spoke with Obasanjo.
No one, however, could tell what Ekwueme told the former president who again replied in pidgin, “As we come, na so we go go,” which literally translates that those who came into the world first would be the first to depart from it.

Messi’s 2-weeks-old Son Signed By Football Club

World’s best footballer, Lionel Messi’s baby is just two weeks old, but he has already signed for a football club! Can you beat that?
Argentina outfit Newell’s where Messi played at youth level before joining Barcelona have snapped up the son of the man widely believed to be a football god, Thiago as a member; gods begat gods, they believe, and they took a step before someone else snaps up the ‘new god’.
Newell’s will be hoping their decision to beat the competition early pays off by Messi’s powers of soccer genius passing down through his genes to the little lad.
Baby Thiago, who was signed by his grandfather, is eight years younger than when his dad joined them in 1995.
The small ‘football god’ was born on November 2 which is one part of a bizarre riddle involving the current two best players in the world who have been on each other’s neck for honours; Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo is 869 days older than his great rival Messi.
But unbelievably true, Ronaldo’s son Cristiano Ronaldo Junior is also 869 days older than Messi’s son.
Messi has now broken almost all records possible and he remains the fans’ favourite for the next Balon d’or. As great and talented a player Cristiano Ronaldo is, it is rather unfortunate that he is also in the spotlight in the Messi era. If not for Messi, Ronaldo deserved to have won several personal honours.
To end arguments on comparison of the two greatest players living now, most people conclude on this; ‘Messi is a god, Ronaldo is human. They are both great footballers, but you still can’t compare a god to a man

Chelsea In Pole Position To Land Falcao After Opening Talks On €60m January Move

Radamel Falcao is inching closer on his move to Chelsea after opening informal talks on a sensational €60 million January move.
Club chiefs, acting on the instruction of owner Roman Abramovich, have made it clear to Falcao that they want to activate the release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract.

And the Colombian striker has responded to the interest by telling Chelsea that he wants to move to Stamford Bridge in the winter window.
Despite big spenders Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain competing for the 26-year-old’s signature, Falcao is now destined for a switch to Stamford Bridge at the turn of the year.
The deal is a complex one because of third-party ownership issues – with super agent Jorge Mendes part of a consortium holding an interest in Falcao – but Chelsea have intensified their efforts to land the front man in recent weeks in a bid to ensure the transfer can be completed in January.
The European champions have made Falcao a contract offer and it is believed that personal terms have already been agreed on a deal that is likely to make the striker one of the highest paid players in Premier League history.
Atletico are desperate to keep Falcao but will have no option if a club activates the buyout clause for a player who cost €45m when he joined from Porto in 2011.
Since moving from South America to Europe in 2009, Falcao has scored 121 goals in 147 matches for Porto and Atletico. b activates the buyout clause for a player who cost €45m when he joined from the spanish side in 2011.
The Tafawa Balewa Square, Onikan, Lagos, is gearing up to host the annual gospel musical concert, The Experience. This is even as organisers of the show-piece event have announced their readiness for this year’s edition billed to go down on Friday, December 7 and Saturday, December 8, 2012.
Billed to perform at the gospel event are popular singers including US-based Fred Hammond, Deitrick Haddon, Don Moen, Chevelle Franklyn, all of whom will be supported by their Nigerian counterparts, Wale Adenuga and Sammie Okposo.
Also on the list are Mike Aremu, Micah Stampley and the Chosen Treasure group.
The concert which is in its sixth year, has been responsible for bringing internationally recognized acts like Kirk Franklin, Cece and Bebe Winans, Ron Kenonly, Tom Brooks, Donnie McClurkin among others at different times.
Last year, The Experience held at the Expo Hall of the New Eko Hotels Lagos against its traditional venue of the open ground of the Tafawa Balewa square due to security concerns.
The Experience is a brain child of Paul Adefarasin’s ‘House on The Rock’.
